M2M's Social Relevance
During the past 40 years, fundamental shifts have been occurring in the way individuals use and interact with machines. The earliest mechanical devices served very practical purposes. In recent years, the Internet caused a technological revolution that spurned not only information technology but communications technology involving fixed and mobile infrastructure and physical assets. While the Internet has the ability to connect every person across the globe day or night, machine-to-machine (M2M) technology is changing communication into information that can be acted upon seamlessly and ubiquitously via people, machines, devices, or systems. As this seamless technology becomes part of every day businesses and economies, this revolution substantially affect way of life around the world.
Opportunities for Moving the Philippine Society Forward using M2M
M2M Wireless Tech Corporation believes that the transformation of the Philippine society is imminent as wireless technology gains momentum. We are accountable for our decisions not only to direct stakeholders in the business milieu but to the different sectors of society. We strive to be relevant in this time of ICT revolution by enabling technology for national, local and community stakeholders working as/with government, non-government and private organizations.
In particular, two specific opportunities moved M2M Wireless Tech’s social thrust forward:
| 1. |
Mobile cellular communications augmented the lack of telephone density in the country such that the exponential growth in SMS messaging placed the Philippines on the map as the SMS/texting capital of the world.
M2M Wireless shall continue to enable government solutions such as facilitating Quick Information Dispatch (QID) in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources sectors through mobile SMS technology in Luzon and Mindanao. Agri/aqua businesses, individuals and communities in the country side are expected to achieve direct economic benefit through connectivity to knowledge bases as well as access to global telecommunications. Government and non-government organizations can be assisted by the company in building technology hubs to house central information systems and management of ICT resources to support sustainable development.

The speed of the internet revolution put a digital divide between the city-based population and the Filipinos in the country side; the disparity in access and availability of infrastructure and technology as well as existing poverty issues, pose challenges to effective adoption of ICT.
M2M Wireless aims to help in enabling technology for better management, transfer and governance of non-traditional community-based livelihood business and education projects in cooperation with private, government and non-government organizations. The surge in communications and continuous penetration of broadband internet driven by national and local government and other sectors provide a huge potential for M2M wireless applications implemented across the broad spectrum of venues in the next five years: Buildings, Energy, Industrial, Medical, Transportation, and Security/ Public Safety.
Some of the M2M benefits to be delivered include process control, water and power utilities telemetry, supply chain/logistics management solutions and real-time intelligent device data for remote monitoring and control. |
